A Midautumn Night's Dream.. i mean.. festival

Delaqroux Inc Updates on 2k8 Midautumn festival aka Lantern Festival

Ok, brief recap! Midautumn fest is a chinese cultural celebration in which is celebrated in the name of two legends. First is the legend of a lady called Chang Er who get married to a dousche who shot the 8 out of 9 suns (well, 9 suns=earth hot=pissed off king=king ask archer guy to shoot down some of the suns, capiche?). The archer guy is kinda a guy whom i call "perasan kickass" so after getting himself married to Chang Er (and forcing Chang Er to marry him), he got his hand on some immortality pill and he planned to use that to kick more ass. However, Chang Er foresaw his plan and pwned archer guy by running off the pill, swallowing it in the process during the chasing action and she (god-knows-how) flew to the moon. Soon, fearing the husband on earth (um... she got the immortality pill so why afraid of the dude? hmm...) she asked the Sky King to let her stay on the mood with some rabbits. Voila! There you have the first legend.

Aaaand, second legend; last time there was this big war where the kingdom of China fought the Mongols. For some reason, they strategized an attack plan on 15th of August as the moon was on its brightest for that year. However, uniting an army (of undercover villagers-soldiers) isnt really easy without the Mongols knowing- ecspecially when email and sms systems are not yet invented. King (or actually the advisor), got a smart idea of delivering the message by putting it inside mooncakes (cakes shape like a moon- no fortune cookies at this point of time) and distributing them throughout the continent. So the plan worked, Mongol got owned, people happy, people celebrate 15th of August with mooncakes and lanterns to honor the day when the Mongols are defeated. Yep, so that sums up the second legend.

For IPBA's 2k8 mooncake festival, the celbration was done in a larger scale where it was organized in the Auditorium instead of the usual Lecture Halls. For the organization crew this time around, Cohort 5 collaborated with Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 (Cohort1's juniors) so yep, even the organization crew was of a larger scale. Regardless, i missed half of the celebration as i fell asleep while waiting for Bee Fei to get ready (for some reason, she actually fell asleep too... =3=) In any case, i was able to catch the sketch (of the two legends of Midautumn fest) and some sing-along stuff (Dayum, Chew's voice was kickass!!). And yeah, i was able to catch the usual Lantern parade and the feast afterwards so yeah, much like last year and the year before's Midautumn festival in IPBA. It was another cool celebration and yep, mucho congratso for the collaboration of organization crews =)

But to tell you the truth, it's the afterfest that i'm usually looking forward to. When everyone left the venue for us to clean the place up, we literally own the place for ourselves and thus, allowing us to do all the crazy stuff accessible with a powerpoint projector, a stage, a couple of microphones and no HEPs (:p) In 2k6, we lepak-ed for a really really long time, taking pictures and screaming around aimlessly with lanterns (alot of lanterns were terminated unfortunaly for that year). In 2k7, t'was they hype! We actually transformed DKB into a night club and we go clubbing inside together with our seniors. For this year, we.... umm... totally do random stuff.. Preena, Reva and Ivon danced some tango-ish thing on stage while me, adam and shogi karaoke-ed songs on audi's speaker. A few people nearly get killed while cleaning up the place. Some people just sing along... etc. etc. Oh yeah, a point to be highlighted here is that i found out that me and high heel shoes can actually get acquaintanced pretty well :p

As a closing call, that night will probably be my last Mooncake fest in IPBA. I enjoyed it (every single year) and yep, i'm gonna miss it. Gonna miss everyone even more... Bleh..
